Tasty Tomato Rice Recipe

A simple and delicious recipe for a quick lunch or dinner

  • 2 cups of rice
  • 1 large tomato, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 green chili, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon of red chili powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons of oil
  • Cilantro, for garnish

Tomato rice is a classic South Indian dish that is quick, easy and delicious. It's perfect for a busy weeknight or a quick lunch. This recipe is packed with flavors and is sure to become a family favorite.

Start by cooking the rice according to the package instructions. Once it's cooked, set it aside.

In a pan, heat the oil and add the cumin seeds and mustard seeds. Once they start to splutter, add the chopped onion and green chili. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until the onion is translucent.

Next, add the minced garlic and cook for another minute. Then add the chopped tomato and cook for 3-4 minutes or until the tomato is soft and mushy.

Now add the turmeric powder, red chili powder and salt. Mix well and cook for another minute. Add the cooked rice to the pan and mix well to combine all the flavors.

Garnish with cilantro and serve hot with raita or any other accompaniment of your choice.
