Sweet & Savory Mee Goreng Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 package of yellow noodles
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp kecap manis (sweet soy sauce)
- 1 tsp sambal oelek (chili paste)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 green onion, sliced (optional)
Instructions:
- Cook the noodles according to the package instructions and set aside.
- Heat the oil in a large pan over medium heat. Sauté the onion and garlic until softened and fragrant, about 3 minutes.
- Add the red and green bell peppers and stir fry for another 2 minutes.
- Push the vegetables to one side of the pan and pour the beaten eggs into the other side. Scramble the eggs until cooked, then mix them together with the vegetables.
- Add the cooked noodles to the pan and stir to combine with the vegetables and eggs. Stir in the soy sauce, kecap manis, sambal oelek, salt, and sugar.
- Continue to stir fry until the noodles are heated through and evenly coated with the sauce, about 5 minutes.
- Garnish with sliced green onion, if desired, and serve hot with additional soy sauce, kecap manis, or sambal oelek on the side.
Tips:
- For a vegetarian version, omit the eggs and use tofu or tempeh instead.
- For a spicier version, add more sambal oelek to taste.
- For a more authentic Indonesian flavor, add some sliced shrimp or diced chicken to the pan before adding the noodles.
