If you're a fan of meaty, savory snacks, you'll love loh bak, a popular dish from Malaysia. Whether you're in the mood for a quick snack or a hearty meal, loh bak is a must-try dish for anyone who loves bold, flavorful foods.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon ground white pepper
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon five spice powder
  • 8 sheets of bean curd skin
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, soy sauce, sesame oil, oyster sauce, sugar, cornstarch, white pepper, ginger, garlic, and five spice powder. Mix well until everything is evenly distributed.
  2. Take one sheet of bean curd skin and place a spoonful of the pork mixture in the center. Roll up the bean curd skin, tucking in the sides as you go, to form a tight cylinder. Repeat with the remaining bean curd skin and pork mixture.
  3. In a large pan, heat enough vegetable oil to come up about 1 inch up the sides of the pan. When the oil is hot, add the loh bak and cook until they are golden brown on all sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  4. Remove the loh bak from the pan and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain off any excess oil. Serve hot and enjoy!

Tips:

  • If you prefer a sweeter loh bak, you can add a little more sugar to the pork mixture.
  • If you can't find bean curd skin, you can use spring roll wrappers instead.
  • For a spicy twist, add a diced chili pepper to the pork mixture.
