Chinese Beef and Broccoli

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb flank steak, sliced thin
  • 2 heads of broccoli, cut into florets
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, toss the sliced steak with the 1/4 cup of cornstarch. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over high heat. Add the steak and cook for 2-3 minutes or until browned. Remove the steak from the pan and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds or until fragrant.
  4. Add the broccoli florets to the pan and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes or until tender-crisp.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, and water. Set aside.
  6. Return the steak to the pan and pour the sauce over the top. Stir to coat the steak and broccoli evenly.
  7. Bring the sauce to a boil and cook for 1-2 minutes or until thickened. Serve hot over steamed rice.

Tips:

  • For a spicier dish, add 1 teaspoon of chili flakes to the sauce mixture.
  • Try using sirloin steak for a tender and juicy alternative to flank steak.
  • Add sliced bell peppers or mushrooms for extra vegetables and flavor.
