Classic Glazed Donuts

Nothing beats the classic sweetness of a glazed donut. Here's what you need for the dough:

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, warm water, egg, and yeast.
  3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Once the dough has risen, roll it out to 1/2 inch thickness and cut out the donuts using a round cutter.
  7. Let the donuts rise for another 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  8. Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat until it reaches 350°F. Fry the donuts for 1-2 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
  9. While the donuts are still warm, dip them in the glaze and let them cool on a wire rack.
