Ingredients:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
- Food coloring (optional)
Instructions:
- Line a 9x9 inch square pan with parchment paper and lightly grease the paper.
- In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until sugar has completely dissolved.
- Increase heat to high and bring mixture to a boil without stirring. Allow to boil until mixture reaches 300°F on a candy thermometer.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and food coloring (if using). Pour mixture into prepared pan and allow to cool completely.
- Once cooled, lift candy from pan using parchment paper and cut into desired shapes using a greased knife or cookie cutters.
Tips:
- For a softer candy, add a few drops of vinegar to the mixture before boiling.
- For a flavored candy, try using different extracts or oils in place of vanilla.
- To avoid crystals from forming, make sure all utensils and the saucepan are completely clean and dry before use.
