Macarons
Macarons are the epitome of French patisseries. With a crisp shell and a soft, chewy interior, these delicate little sandwiches are the perfect balance of textures. Here's what you need for the shells:
- 1 cup almond flour
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 large egg whites
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- Food coloring, if desired
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, sift together the almond flour and powdered sugar.
- In a separate bowl, whip the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
- Gradually add the granulated sugar to the egg whites and continue to whip until the mixture is glossy and stiff.
- Fold the almond flour mixture into the egg white mixture until well combined.
- If using food coloring, add it now and mix until well combined.
- Pipe the mixture onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, using a large round tip.
- Let the macarons sit at room temperature for 30 minutes to an hour to form a "skin" on the surface.
- Bake the macarons at 300°F for 15-20 minutes, or until they are crisp and firm to the touch.
- Sandwich two macarons together with your favorite filling and serve!
