Indian Butter Chicken

Butter Chicken, also known as Murgh Makhani, is a popular Indian dish that is loved by millions around the world. This dish is made with tender chicken pieces simmered in a rich tomato-based sauce and seasoned with a blend of spices that include garam masala, cumin, coriander, and turmeric. The sauce is then finished with a generous amount of butter and cream, giving it its signature rich and creamy flavor. Serve it over a bed of basmati rice or with freshly baked naan bread for a complete meal.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound boneless chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons ghee or oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped

  • 1 teaspoon coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 can (28 ounces) of crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream

Instructions:

  1. Heat the ghee or oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the chicken and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Add the onion, garlic, and ginger to the pan and cook until softened, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the garam masala, cumin, coriander, and turmeric and cook for an additional minute.
  4. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Stir in the heavy cream, butter, salt, and pepper and continue to cook for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened and the chicken is fully cooked.
  6. Serve hot over a bed of rice or with freshly baked naan bread.
