Introducing a Pacifier
Pacifiers can be a helpful tool for soothing a fussy baby, but introducing one can be a bit challenging. Here are some tips to make the process smoother:
Wait until breastfeeding is established
If you're breastfeeding, it's best to wait until your baby is 3-4 weeks old to introduce a pacifier, to avoid nipple confusion and ensure a strong latch is established.
Choose the right pacifier
Opt for a one-piece, orthodontic pacifier that supports your baby's oral development. Ensure it's the appropriate size for your baby's age, and always check for damage before use.
Introduce at the right time
Offer the pacifier when your baby is calm and content, not when they're hungry or overtired. This will help them associate the pacifier with comfort and relaxation.
Don't force it
If your baby resists the pacifier, don't force it. Give them a break and try again later. Some babies may not take to a pacifier, and that's okay too.
